In the “news you missed because I spent too much time writing about Star Wars” category, Lionsgate made a major date change on Thursday night for two of their major franchises. Actually, correction, this is more of a “news I couldn’t get around to covering because my son spent Friday at home with pink eye,” but same difference I suppose. Anyway, the long and short of its that Lions Gate Entertainment has switched around the would-be release dates of the final Divergent movie and the first Power Rangers movie.
As you may recall, the House That Jigsaw Built originally slotted Power Rangers to open on July 22, 2016 alongside Ghostbusters, Knights of the Round Table: King Arthur, and Ice Age 5. Ghostbusters moved a week ahead, Star Trek Beyond ended up in the July 22nd slot which just yesterday finally drove King Arthur to February 17, 2017, and Power Rangers ended up in January 13th of 2017. But now that has changed yet again. Power Rangers is now opening on March 24, 2017. But since that was supposed to be the release date for Shailene Woodley’s fourth and final Divergent Series movie, Ascendant will now open on June 9th of 2017.
